Course Description

Introduces students to a church-based, Gospel-centered, Scripture-informed model of people helping people through sin and suffering by the ordinary means of grace, based on understanding how Jesus changes people and how his people are equipped to help from the Scriptures.

Rationale

Since Genesis 3, everyone is hurting from sin and suffering. The Scriptures tell us why we sin and suffer, who we are in Christ, how the Gospel leads to repentance from sin and hope through suffering in progressive change into the image of Christ, and how ordinary believers are equipped by the Spirit and Word to speak the truth in love and comfort one another through suffering. It is imperative believers understand their role in helping one another and are equipped to do so with competence and compassion.

CTI: How to Study the Bible

If you are following Jesus, you are in a war.  A war against your own sin, a war against the present darkness, worldly ideologies, and spiritual forces of evil. It’s a war waged with the Scriptures as our “sword of the Spirit.”  We’re called to live and think in line with the Bible.  Do you want to get trained on how to unsheathe the Word with honor and greater effectiveness in your life? You need to learn how to study the Bible better.

CTI: The Sovereignty of God and Human Freedom

This class will explore one of the biggest questions of the Christian life:  if God is sovereign and in control of the world, how does that fit with our free will, and with prayer and evangelism?  How should it stir us to love and fear God?  This is the one that toddlers stump their parents with, and puzzles your college philosophy prof.  Come join us as we uncover the Bible’s transformative, compelling teaching on this difficulty!
